Warp was approached by Biology Educators of Aotearoa New Zealand (BEANZ) to redevelop their resource website.
The clients approached Warp intending to redevelop their website, aiming to increase its flexibility and support additional integrated features.
BEANZ.org.nz is a membership-based hub for teacher resources originally hosted on WordPress.
During the redevelopment process, instead of building the additional features on to the existing website, we decided to transition to a custom site built on Laravel.
This decision was made as it was apparent that the requirements presented by the client had outgrown the capabilities of the WordPress platform.
The following section outlines the tools used for the redevelopment and its reasoning:
Laravel is a popular open-source PHP framework for web applications.
We chose to use Laravel for the redevelopment as it is well supported, and allows for far more customization and extensibility (compared to WordPress).
We also draw from our positive experiences with Laravel, which had proven to be highly effective and trouble-free.
AlpineJS is a lightweight front-end JavaScript framework that allowed us to integrate front-end interactivity.
We chose Alpine as this website as the front- end did not have the complexity to justify a heavier weight library such as React or Vue.
Despite being lightweight, AlpineJS encapsulates the functionality required to create dynamic page elements.
